The islands of VABBINRAFU and IHURU gaze like huge eyes into the tropical skies. This photo from 1973 shows the wild, natural islands with their untouched protective atolls around them. Today their names are Banyan Tree and Angsana. Because the reefs have been breached to give access for boats, many of the hotel-islands suffer from erosion and loss of sand.
