Early in the morning, before sunrise at 5 a.m., the brightly painted fishing-boats, called dhonis, leave the harbour and return to the fish-market in Male at about 4 p.m. On good days, several hundred fish are caught in a few hours. In the tuna season the boats are heavily laden with "bonitos" and the massive "yellow-fins".
